The gateway to Eltz Castle - that's how Moselkern has been called for a long time. Which is also very obvious because the famous castle is located only about 3 km (1.8 miles) from the village.
The town hall
The oldest town hall on the Moselle dating from 1535 is a special feature, not only because it is an impressive example of Moselle half-timbered construction.
In the wall of the first floor you can still see the iron ring, on which until the French Revolution lawbreakers were tied and exposed to the ridicule of the population.
The "Merovingian Cross"
In 1915, a unique find was brought to light in the cemetery of Moselkern, a tomb made of basalt lava from the end of the 7th century. It is one of the earliest monumental representations of the crucified Christ and is known north of the Alps as the so-called Merovingian Cross. Today the original Merovingian Cross is in the Rheinisches Landesmuseum in Bonn. Copies are placed in the cemetery in Moselkern and at the parish church.
